Megan in Thailand
Katie in Thailand
Gene in Thailand and Vietnam
This trip would be my longest international travel lasting for 39 days, and the trip had four goals. All four goals were achieved. My first goal was to spend the Christmas and New Year Holidays with my daughter Katie who was teaching in Ebril, Iraq. The second objective was to be the “tag alone” when Megan, the daughter of my first cousin Jeanne, joined Katie and I to travel to three islands/beaches in Thailand. My third objective had two parts. One part was to return to Ho Chin Minh city to tour the War Remnant Museum, and the second part was to return to the island of Phu Quoc to enjoy the sea food at their night market and to see several other sights in the city including Coconut Prison. My fourth and final objective was to visit Warm Heart again to continue our effort to develop an online entrepreneurship program for middle-aged women in northern Thailand.
The total cost for travel, hotels, and about 30 meals as breakfast was included with the cost of many hotels, was $3,357 or $86/day. Separating the airfare from hotel and 30 meals, the cost per day drops to $52.80/day as the cost of airfare was $1,297 for four different flights and as expected, my roundtrip airfare Chicago-to-Bangkok represented the majority of my airfare cost at $845. My detailed itinerary is shown below and reports that my lowest hotel cost was $14/night in Ban Pradoo, Thailand while my highest hotel cost was $104/night (Railey Beach).
